Pistachios are harvested when they are ripe, which is usually at the end of August. You can tell they’re ripe when the hard shell cracks open on its own. However, some sellers harvest the nuts before they are fully ripe, so the pistachios need help opening. While these nuts may be cheaper, they are also much smaller, and once shelled, they definitely don’t weigh as much as the naturally opened ones you’ll find in our store.

And how can you tell if pistachios have been mechanically opened? You’ll usually find many empty shells in the package, and the crack doesn’t follow the seam of the shell but breaks in one direction or the other.

Why pistachios, specifically?

The tree on which pistachios grow in clusters is called the pistachio tree and is native to Asia. The largest pistachio plantations are located in Iran and the U.S., but they can also be found in many other countries.

Pistachios are among the nuts with the longest history; they were already popular as early as 6,000 years before our era and were a luxury delicacy of the upper classes. And it’s no wonder. Pistachios are beloved for their sweetish taste and beautiful green color. For many people, shelling pistachios has a relaxing effect and is a great way to keep children entertained for a long time.

Like other nuts, pistachios are packed with nutrients. They contain a wide range of vitamins and minerals that have a positive impact on our health. They keep the heart and nervous system in good shape, and the phytosterols they contain help lower harmful cholesterol levels.

Several types of pistachios are available on the market, differing in variety, shape, size, and, above all, flavor. For shelled pistachios, the most common criteria for evaluation are the variety, color, and percentage of whole pieces. We prioritize the highest quality, so our packages contain 95% whole pistachios. When it comes to the color of the kernels, the darker the green, the higher the quality. We offer Grade S and Grade A pistachios, which are the highest-quality kernels on the market.
